The Best of Broadway (Selected from Various Broadway Productions)

The Best of Broadway (Selected from Various Broadway Productions) by Dramatic Publishing Company

Created by the best of the Broadway composers, lyricists and comedy skit writers, this play features a flexible cast. It consists of 23 of the best songs and sketches from a number of Broadway revues. You'll find the work of Pulitzer Prize winners Sheldon Harnick and Jerry Bock, who also wrote Fiddler on the Roof. There's a bright number by Charles Strouse and Lee Adams of Bye, Bye Birdie fame. Comedy writer Mel Brooks contributed his wild comedy satire of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman, a sketch generally regarded as the high point of the fabulously successful Broadway revue New Faces. Another sketch, often considered Auberbach's best, is A Song to Forget. These pieces function beautifully together. The musical revue is sometimes neglected mainly because of the difficulty in finding good material. Here that problem is solved! Optional sets or w/curtains. Orchestration available from Dramatic Publishing. Read more...

Occupy Wall Street: The Morning They Didn't Clean the Park

“All week, all day, marching down Broadway!” shouted some people. There was a guy with a whistle. But for some reason this pledge didn't catch on. There was still a tremendous cluster in Zuccotti. As the daylight arrived, I somehow caught on to this

Downtown fixes start with traffic

10.07.11

Regardless of one’s reaction to any or all of Mark Landrum’s June 19 diagnosis of the ills afflicting downtown Columbia (“District of Discombobulation”), one has to applaud his intentions and hope that those who are in position to do something about the problems are listening — or reading. I can’t agree with everything he wrote or with all of his suggested solutions, nor do I believe Landrum would look for universal, enthusiastic endorsement of his comments. This is, after all, Columbia, the Gem of Commotion, where unanimity will always be an elusive goal.
